More Security Should Your Gear Get Lifted


Tech Crunch has a post about an interesting product called CameraTrace from GadgetTrak. Rather than tracking the camera itself (although they will help with that, too) CameraTrace will search for content that has been uploaded to popular websites by your camera. Here are some details:
The way it works is that almost all digital cameras imprint their serial number on the photos they shoot, which CameraTrace can detect when they’re posted online. Law enforcement can then be alerted to investigate.
One time fee of $10/camera does buy some security, but like we all know, the best security is being smart and keeping your stuff secure. Sure, that's not always possible and we're all forgetful so if additional piece-of-mind is top-of-mind, $10 is a small price to pay.
